Over the weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry had a major haul with the seizure of more than $238,000 worth of narcotics, according to a report issued by the agency. The narcotics were discovered during a routine inspection at one of the port's international bridges, marking a significant interception in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.

The incident unfolded on August 31 when a CBP officer decided to simply refer a 2025 Nissan Frontier, driven by a 46-year-old Mexican citizen, for a more detailed secondary inspection at the Camino Real International Bridge. During this thorough check, a CBP canine and nonintrusive inspection equipment were deployed, according to the agency's statement. The persistence paid off when officers discovered packages concealed within the liner of a cooler containing significant amounts of drugs.

In total, the seizure comprised 22.7 pounds of alleged methamphetamine and 2.3 pounds of what is believed to be cocaine. These narcotics carry an estimated street value of $238,915, representing a substantial potential impact on the drug market. “This significant seizure was possible because of the continued vigilance and alertness our CBP officers put forth on a daily basis,” Pete Beattie, the Eagle Pass Port of Entry Port Director, asserted in the CBP's media release.

Following the discovery, CBP seized not only the narcotics but also the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested by the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, who have now taken over the helm to conduct a full-blown criminal investigation into the matter.
