Commuters and residents in North Philadelphia can breathe a sigh of relief as East Hunting Park Avenue is back in action. Announced earlier today, the stretch between Whitaker and G Street has reopened, according to the City of Philadelphia. This marks the end of a 7-month closure due to a comprehensive reconstruction project that, driven by the necessity of modern conveniences, stepped off on February 10.
The project involved replacing the deteriorating bridge with solid earth fill, while utilities were relocated to fit the new design. Urban Engineers, working with the Streets Department Design Unit, managed the design process and laid the foundation for construction. As reported by the City of Philadelphia, the $1.7 million project, funded through a combination of State Act 13 and City Capital funds, was carried out by South State Inc.
The Streets Department’s mission is to ensure safe and reliable travel throughout Philadelphia. This project supports that mission by swiftly and efficiently restoring a critical piece of transportation infrastructure and strengthening the traffic network in North Philadelphia, as per the City of Philadelphia.
