Drivers in Sanilac County should brace themselves for upcoming delays, as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has greenlighted a permit for vital storm sewer work on M-53. The MDOT-sanctioned undertaking, slated to kick off on September 23, will see the stretch of M-53 between Chard Street and Angle City in Marlette undergo significant changes to its current state of navigability.
According to information obtained by the Michigan Department of Transportation, this is no small-scale interruption. Motorists can expect to dodge the inconvenience of lane closures, traffic shifts, with a promise of at least one lane remaining open in each direction. It's the telltale signs of roadwork—a disruption that, though temporary, marks the rhythm of our commutes with the percussion of orange cones and the slow march of progress.
The impetus for this seeming obstruction is clear: the safety of Sanilac's utility workers, and that of the motorists themselves, depends on it. The MDOT announcement specifies that these restrictions are a necessary measure to ensure the replacement of the storm sewer under M-53 can be completed without compromise to human life.
