Earlier today, a house fire in Jacksonville's Grand Park neighborhood sent four individuals to the hospital, including two children. The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD) reported to the scene at a residence located in the 2300 block of Sherrington Street, as initially covered in a report by News4Jax.
According to JFRD, the incident was reported at around 7:50 a.m., and upon their arrival, they found that, the fire had started in the living room of the home. Among the injured were a mother and her youngest child who are now in critical condition, and the other two victims, a grandmother, and an older child are currently in stable condition, as stated by JFRD in statements obtained by News4Jax and First Coast News.
Shannon Nelson, a spokesperson for the JFRD, offered additional details to First Coast News, including that of the four hospitalized, one adult and one child were in serious condition, while the remaining adult and child suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation, the officials were not able to immediately determine if a smoke detector was present in the home. This detail was mentioned by multiple outlets, including Action News Jax.
