Special Master Deborah Greenspan has filed a notice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan stating that settlement payments for the Flint Water Crisis will begin this fall. According to the Department of Attorney General, instructions will be provided through the official payment portal. A total of 25,759 claimants have been approved, including 13,169 children.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel reminded Flint residents to be cautious as settlement payments move forward. She urged claimants not to share banking information with unverified parties and to report any suspicious requests directly to the Special Master’s office. The Flint water crisis began in 2014 when the city switched its water source to the Flint River. A $600 million settlement was announced in 2020, followed by an additional $53 million settlement with Veolia North America earlier this year. The payments are being handled under the supervision of the U.S. District Court, as reported by the Department of Attorney General.

The Special Master said instructions for the Flint water settlement fund will be released this autumn through the official settlement website. The fund is not controlled by lawyers, the City of Flint, elected officials, or the State of Michigan. The settlement includes an agreement with Veolia and is the largest civil payout in state history. Residents should check the official website for updates on disbursement procedures and fund management, as stated by the Department of Attorney General.
