As the new workweek begins, Florida launches its first-ever tax-free holiday for hunting, fishing, and camping gear, running through the end of the year. According to WESH, outdoor enthusiasts, especially those buying guns and ammo, now tax-exempt for the first time, are welcoming the savings as they stock up for their next adventure.
This temporary tax reprieve, a nod to the state's gun owners and nature aficionados extends its discounting hand to varying items including, but not limited to ammo, firearms and accessories like holsters and optics for the hunting gentry, while for the campers and anglers among us, the purse strings can hold tight on purchases of camping lanterns, tackle boxes, and the rods and reels sacred to the piscatorial pursuit.
JD Johnson, co-owner of Talon Tactical Outfitters, a shop situated in the west of Tallahassee, which has generously stocked its aisles with hunting rifles and shotguns in preparation, noted the lifted tax burden's timely benefit, stating, "It’s going to be a significant tax break. Guns are not cheap anymore," in an interview with ClickOrlando. Their prices, often steep, stretch the spectrum from accessible to the high-end, with quality handguns initiating at around $400, stretching to over $1,000, and hunting rifles, which can ascend price ladders up to $2,500—scopes alone can contribute an additional $400 to $2,000 atop those sums.
