Four former employees of Milwaukee’s Hyatt Regency hotel faced sentencing in connection with the death of D’Vontaye Mitchell. Hearings ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Two of the men pleaded guilty to felony murder, while the other two pleaded to lesser misdemeanor charges, according to JSOnline.
At the sentencing hearing, D’Vontaye Mitchell’s widow, Deasia Harmon, said, "This man knew exactly what he was doing when he took my husband's life, away from our children, from his mother," and added, "To sit here and know there is no consequence for this person’s actions is disheartening, and it’s disgusting," as reported by TMJ4. His mother, Brenda Giles, described the "worst night" of her life when she learned of her son’s death and asked the judge to give the strongest sentences to those involved.
Brandon Turner, Herbert Williamson, Todd Erickson, and Devin Johnson-Carson appeared in separate hearings after pleading guilty in connection with the death of D’Vontaye Mitchell. Turner, a former security guard, was the first to face the judge, as mentioned by FOX6 Now. The court’s decisions were based on their pleas and the circumstances of the incident outside the downtown hotel.
