The victims, found shot multiple times in an apartment on 300 Luther Drive, have been identified as Alonzo Hawkins, 34, Doneisha Brooks, 39, and Olivia Brooks, 8. Georgetown Police, who arrived at the scene around 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, are now on a search for a homicide suspect - a person believed to be known to the victims.
In the wake of this tragic event, relatives of the victims have been left reeling. They characterize the slain family members as loving and undeserving of such a violent end, struggling to comprehend the motivations behind the attack. "They’re just a happy, loving family, and it’s sad to see their lives taken. They didn’t deserve anything," Ashley Ford, Hawkins' sister, told KXAN in an interview.
The grieving family, conversing with KXAN from outside Dallas, reeled from the shock, saying, "It’s like it’s a dream, like we’re all going to wake up from it and they’re going to be with us again." Tree Ford, a cousin, expressed the tight-knit nature of their family and their willingness to help anyone, adding, "We just don’t know what happened or who would have done this." When the Hawkins and Brooks families did not receive their customary daily communication, they sent someone over for a welfare check, which led to the grim discovery.
Concern permeates the Georgetown community, with residents like Paula Paulette contemplating a move for their safety, saying to Fox San Antonio, "We've been contemplating a move to Round Rock or North Austin, and I think you're seriously looking at that." Freddy Garza, with connections to the apartment complex, notes an uptick in local violence but acknowledges that a tragedy of this magnitude is unprecedented for the area.
Georgetown Police are investigating a person of interest and asking anyone with information to come forward. More details will be shared in the coming days.
