
At the annual convention for the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT), Governor Greg Abbott took the stage to bestow honors upon the state's finest in law enforcement. The Texas Officer of the Year Awards recognized the dedication and risks taken by officers to ensure public safety. According to the Office of the Texas Governor, Abbott highlighted the importance of law enforcement in community safety, saying, "You cannot go to work, you cannot go to school, you cannot go shopping, you cannot live in your community and feel safe without the support of law enforcement to ensure that safety."
According to an official release from Governor Abbott's office, he emphasized the state's legislative measures, specifically, the toughest bail reform package in Texas history, aimed to keep allegedly dangerous individuals off the streets. Governor Abbott also expressed gratitude to the officers for their work. "I am grateful for you and your work to keep our communities safe," he said, as detailed on the Office of the Texas Governor website.
Several law enforcement leaders joined Governor Abbott at the convention, including CLEAT President Scott Leeton and Executive Director Robert Leonard, among others. The camaraderie among these leaders was evident, showcasing a united front for Texas law enforcement. The full roster of this year’s Texas Officer of the Year award recipients reflects a diverse group of individuals from a range of departments, each selected for their extraordinary contributions to public safety.
The award recipients, among them Jessica Caro of the El Paso Police Department and Scott Leeton of the Corpus Christi Police Department, represent the high caliber of dedication within the Texas law enforcement community. Governor Abbott took the opportunity to also deeply thank every Texas law enforcement officer for their courage and steadfast commitment to the safety of the Texas populace.
