In a recent move to support education amid ongoing recovery efforts, Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott have handed out laptops to students of the Center Point Independent School District (CISD), particularly those hit hardest by the Fourth of July floods. At a school event, the Governor highlighted the role of technology in contemporary education, stating, "Today, as children return to school, we want make sure they have every tool available to them to help them succeed," according to an article from the governor's official website.
This initiative is backed by a collaborative effort, involving contributions from AT&T, Compudopt, the Center Point Alliance for Progress, CISD, and The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, the spirit of the partnership, it seeks to ensure students don't fall behind due to the tragic floods that swept their communities. Governor Abbott, who met with the affected families, acknowledged their resilience and the support of organizations that have committed to helping students remain connected in an era where digital access is pivotal for education, and during his remarks at the event, he thanked the companies and foundations, remarking on their critical investments in the future of Center Point's youth.
The Governor's ongoing commitment to the flood-stricken areas extends beyond the laptop distribution, as outlined on the governor’s official website. His administration has worked to secure additional federal aid, extend SNAP benefits to more counties, stepped up state disaster responses, and obtained approvals for further Presidential Disaster Declarations, in various counties, to bolster the ongoing recovery.
Abbott's engagement with these communities is reflected in his comprehensive response strategy which includes extending the FEMA Individual Assistance registration period, announcing significant flood relief funding, and facilitating the reopening of critical infrastructure like the Cow Creek Bridge, and in the midst of these extensive efforts, Governor Abbott stood beside the residents of Texas, surveying the damage, coordinating aid, and ensuring that every possible resource is mobilized to support the individuals whose lives were upended by the natural disaster.
Encouraged by broadened support, the CISD students now have one less obstacle to overcome in their educational journeys as they adapt to a new normal post-catastrophe. The actions of the Abbott administration and their partners underscore the ongoing dedication to community resilience and recovery in the face of adversities that have tested Texans’ resolve. With such gestures of assistance, the spirit of Texas stands resilient, offering a beacon of hope and progress amidst recovery.
