The Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners met on Wednesday to address several topics. Commissioners formally recognized September 15 to October 15, as Hispanic Heritage Month. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported issuing 5,775 school speed zone camera violations from August 2024 to July this year, generating $310,378 distributed among county services and state departments. Red-light cameras issued 7,677 violations from July 2024 to August, collecting $639,000 in fines.

As per the Hillsborough County Newsroom, the Board approved an amendment to the HOME-American Rescue Plan Allocation plan to add $15,590 for affordable housing initiatives. It also added three transportation and one Fire Rescue project to phase four of the Community Investment Tax (CIT), with funding planned for the FY26–FY31 Capital Improvement Program pending adoption of the FY26 budget.

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA may receive up to $1 million for the Spurlino Family YMCA Gym expansion in Riverview, with service and program vouchers of equal value provided in return. A one-time payment of $28,500 to the nonprofit Grow My Giving, Inc. is planned for the FY26 budget. Stormwater management efforts were also reviewed, including progress at priority flood-prone sites.

The Commission on Human Trafficking will receive $500,000 in funding, including $267,000 in recurring general revenue support, with the remainder from carry-over and additional one-time grants.
