Mark your calendars for a week of awareness and support, as Hillsborough County gears up to celebrate National Adult Day Services Week from September 21 through 27. According to a report by Hillsborough County's official newsroom, this longstanding tradition, which dates back to 1983, will feature a robust schedule of programs designed to assist and educate not only clients but also their caregivers across the county.
Open to the public and requiring no prior registration, the events will unfold at the four Adult Day Service Centers operated by the county. Those who are not currently clients have the chance to freely participate. The kickoff event on September 22 will see all centers hosting an Alzheimer's Education session from 10 a.m. to noon, where participants can engage in educational workshops, memory games, and receive memory screenings. Additionally, the Phyllis Busansky Adult Day Center is set abruptly to bring the Brain Bus on-site as a part of the day's agenda.
For those curious about the services provided, open houses are scheduled at two locations. Next Monday, the Phyllis Busansky Adult Day Care Center will open its doors from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the Bloomingdale Adult Day Care Center on September 26, also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. These events present an invaluable opportunity for guests to learn about a variety of programs and activities that cater to both clients and caregivers in the realm of arts, nutrition, and more.
On the final day of the event, September 26, the centers are preparing to once again host an Alzheimer's Education Session, this time with a focus on fall prevention. From 10 a.m. to noon, attendees can expect to take part in a safety seminar conducted by a medical professional, and later, to directly participate in balance screenings along with a "Safe Strides" obstacle course designed to highlight safety and mobility.
Providing an essential service to the community, the Hillsborough County Adult Day Service Centers support caregivers by creating a structured environment where their loved ones can enjoy social stimulation and activities. With no income restrictions, these centers offer vital benefits through a combination of private pay options and state or federal revenue grants, which may require a copayment.
Comprehensive caregiver support services are also a critical part of the offerings at the Adult Day Care Center initiatives. This includes caregiver support groups, health fairs, workshops, and training sessions, aimed to enhance the quality of life for both caregivers and their loved ones.
