A tribute concert for reggae artist George Veikoso, known as Fiji, will take place on Saturday at the Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell and Kapi‘olani Regional Park in Honolulu. The Kina‘ole Foundation and local agencies are coordinating the event, which is expected to draw more than 30,000 attendees. Gates at the Waikīkī Shell will open at 4 p.m., with the park viewing area available starting at noon. The concert will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. HST and will be livestreamed on the official @FijiTheArtist YouTube channel, according to the City and County of Honolulu.
Public safety personnel will be on site for the tribute concert, and attendees are reminded to keep the peace, respect the park, and “act with aloha.” Parking restrictions will be in effect around Monsarrat Ave., Lē‘ahi Ave., and Kapahulu Ave., with shuttle services from off-site locations and the use of public transportation recommended, as reported by the City and County of Honolulu.
Event guidelines state that there will be no reentry at the Waikīkī Shell, personal shade structures are allowed in the park viewing area, and alcohol is not permitted. Food and merchandise sales will be limited to authorized vendors. Organizers and city officials said the event is intended to honor Fiji’s life and legacy “in the spirit of aloha that he shared with the world,” as stated by the City and County of Honolulu.
