Councilwoman Letitia Plummer has scheduled a community meeting on Tuesday after multiple bodies were found in Houston's bayous. At least six bodies have been discovered in recent weeks, with a total of 15 this year compared to 24 in 2024. "Currently, there is no connection — no reason we should feel there is a serial killer," Plummer said, according to KHOU.

The meeting will be held at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Residents can attend to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss safety in local neighborhoods and along Buffalo Bayou, as reported by Houston Chronicle.

Texas State University researchers studied 189 drowning cases and found no evidence of serial murder, noting that drowning rates in Texas are 8% higher than the national average. “When people don’t have the facts, they start imagining what could be — especially when you find so many [bodies] back to back,” Plummer told KHOU. The councilwoman also advised residents: “Be aware of your surroundings. Travel in groups. Don’t be out late at night,” as city officials and the community address safety along Houston’s bayous.
