An 11-year-old boy was killed in Houston’s Eastside during an incident involving a doorbell prank. According to Click2Houston, the boy was participating in a game known as "ding-dong ditch," in which individuals ring a doorbell and leave before being seen, when he was shot multiple times by a resident. The incident occurred last Saturday night in the 9700 block of Mimbrough.
The Houston Police Department reported that the child was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A middle-aged man, identified as a resident of the home involved in the incident, has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Police recovered multiple weapons from the suspect’s residence.
Neighbors responded to the incident by expressing concern about the presence of firearms in the community and the potential risks involved in situations that include children. Theresa Jones, a local resident, told Click2Houston, "a bullet doesn’t have a name," in reference to the circumstances surrounding the event and the involvement of a firearm.
The Houston Police Department has reiterated that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and a statement obtained by ABC7 Chicago confirmed a suspect was detained last night, but no formal charges have been announced.
