A Houston Powerball player won a $2 million prize in last night’s drawing. The Texas Lottery confirmed that the winning ticket was sold at Barri, which is located at 601 North Cesar Chavez Blvd. in the city's East End, as per FOX 26 Houston. This near jackpot hit managed to match all five white balls, bearing the numbers 3, 16, 29, 61, and 69, but fell short of capturing the Powerball number, which was 22.
Although the base prize for matching five numbers is $1 million, this winner chose to include the Power Play multiplier on their ticket, doubling their winnings to $2 million. According to a report obtained by KHOU, this made the Houston player the highest prize winner in Texas for yesterday's drawing. The win came as the Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.4 billion that night, ranking among the largest in the game's history.
No player claimed the grand prize, so the jackpot will roll over to the next drawing on Saturday. It is now projected to increase to an estimated $1.7 billion, with a cash value of approximately $770.3 million. Powerball’s growing jackpots are the result of participation across multiple states, and with no top prize winner since May 31, both excitement and ticket sales have been steadily rising.
The winner has 180 days from the drawing date to claim their $2 million prize, which came from a quick pick ticket with the Power Play option selected, as mentioned by FOX 26 Houston.
