A 38-year-old Mexican national, Bartolo Saucedo-Patino, was sentenced to 45 months in federal prison for unlawful return to the United States, marking his sixth reentry after deportation, U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced. He had been living in Houston without legal status and pleaded guilty to the offense on June 11, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen sentenced Saucedo-Patino to 32 months in prison for illegal reentry and 13 months for violating supervised release from a prior conviction. The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that “the court considered the dangerousness of his other crimes, lack of respect for the law and need for deterrence.” Saucedo-Patino was arrested on May 27, 2024, in Houston and has previous felony convictions including assault of a family member, assault with intent to impede breathing or circulation, failing to stop and provide information, possession of marijuana, and two cocaine possession charges.

Saucedo-Patino, first deported in September 2007, has been removed from the United States eight times. He is in custody awaiting transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility and will face removal proceedings again after serving his sentence. The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Law, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
