Authorities in Dearborn Heights took one person into custody after online threats were made against a local school. Police said the arrest on Monday was connected to "possible threatening statements" posted on social media toward an unspecified school. The threat was reported to the department around 1:30 p.m. by another law enforcement agency, as reported by Audacy.
Police said officers quickly located a person of interest, who was later taken into custody. Details about the threat have not been released, but according to CBS News Detroit, police stated, "No weapons were found, and the threat appeared to be an isolated incident. Authorities say there were no further threats related to the incident."
The Dearborn Heights Police Department is investigating a school threat and will seek a warrant request through the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office after the investigation. The department stated, "The Dearborn Heights Police Department takes all threats of violence very seriously and will prosecute anyone making threats to the fullest extent of the law," as mentioned by The Detroit News. This case follows other recent school threats in Michigan, including two Metro Detroit high schools in March and a Dearborn Heights man sentenced to jail in May for making threats on social media. Police have not released the suspect’s identity, the targeted school, or whether the suspect was a student.
