The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new scam in which fraudsters impersonate law enforcement officers. Scammers contact people claiming they missed jury duty and even send text messages with official-looking images to appear convincing.

Authorities stress that this is a scam. Law enforcement will never call or text to inform you of a warrant or demand payment. Courts also will not request money or personal information, such as Social Security numbers or banking details, through phone calls, texts, or emails.

If you receive one of these messages, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office advises not to respond or send money. Instead, verify the information by contacting the local Clerk of Courts or calling the JSO’s non-emergency line at 904-630-0500.
