Early this morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) faced a dense challenge on Vermont Avenue. At approximately 9:14 AM, a Greater Alarm Structure Fire was reported at the Hubbard College of Administration in East Hollywood. Initial dispatches indicated smoke pouring from the third floor of the four-story private school and office building, as reported by LAFD's alert system. At the time, firefighters from Station 6 and various other battalions were quick to respond, setting up to confront the blaze which had taken hold of the institution known for its educational endeavors.
The situation was swiftly upgraded to Major Emergency status, with LAFD officials detailing that "114 LAFD Firefighters are now assigned in the active interior offense against heavy fire in one third-floor room in the northeast corner of the building." Salvage operations were simultaneously initiated to protect adjacent rooms and lower floors from damage. As per the LAFD update, there were thankfully no injuries announced during these efforts. Firefighters' prompt action showcased their relentless commitment to safeguard human life and property alike.
Within less than an hour, the LAFD achieved a significant victory. The department announced a 'knockdown' of the fire at 10:00 AM, a mere 46 minutes after their battle began. All heavy fire confined to the northeast corner of the third floor had been fully extinguished. The efficient alarm system of the Hubbard College of Administration International was credited for alerting occupants to evacuate safely prior to the LAFD's arrival. This information was made available via the LAFD alert. The fire's cause remains to be determined, with investigators persisting in their quest to uncover its origin.
In the wake of the blaze, ongoing efforts include LAFD crews diligently working to minimize water and smoke damage within the structure. Captain Adam VanGerpen, LAFD Public Information Officer, stated that "A functional alarm system alerted (an unknown number of/all) occupants to safely exit the structure prior to LAFD arrival," emphasizing the crucial role building safeguards play during such emergencies. The LAFD's resolve to protect and serve is once again vividly illustrated through their effort to rapidly suppress a potential disaster and to continue carrying on salvage efforts in the fire's aftermath.
