A potentially deadly scenario was thwarted yesterday when a live pipe bomb was discovered at a public firearms range in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, prompting a swift response from the Michigan State Police (MSP). The device was identified at the range located off South Gaines Highway near Shortcut Road in Kinross Township, Chippewa County, CBS News Detroit reports.

According to the MSP Eighth District's social media post, troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post was dispatched at approximately 10:36 a.m. following the report of the suspicious device. A specialized Bomb Squad was called to the scene, where they utilized a robot to ascertain the threat, which confirmed the pipe bomb's live status. "The device was safely rendered inert on-site," the MSP Eighth District stated.

The presence of the bomb led to an emergency closure of the range while the MSP Bomb Squad carried out its operation to neutralize the threat. After ensuring the area was safe and the device was dismantled, the range was reopened to the public. In a statement obtained by CBS News Detroit, the Michigan State Police advised that anyone with information related to the pipe bomb or its placement should reach out to the Sault Ste. Marie Post at 906-632-2217.
