The Los Angeles County Probation Department, adhering to a directive from the courts, has initiated the relocation of several youths detained at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall. Following the mandate of Judge Michael Espinoza from earlier this year, on May 16, juveniles marked for a change of scene are being moved to Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall
As detailed by the official statement from Los Angeles County, the transfer process began under the shroud of confidentiality, citing safety concerns. On September 15, the record shows 39 young individuals have already been transferred as the Probation Department follows through with the depopulation plan set forth by the courts.
The department, in its ongoing efforts to maintain transparency while balancing the delicate aspects of security and protocol, will not provide public notices prior to the relocations. Nevertheless, they've made a pledge to keep the Board of Supervisors and involvement in the loop regarding important developments as the situation continues to unfold.
Each juvenile, once they are situated at the new facility, is given an orientation, with their legal guardians and attorneys receiving notification shortly after, ensuring they are informed of the new arrangements. The department's priority, as it negotiates the balance between following court orders and attending to the welfare of these youth, seems anchored in upholding rigorous standards of transparency and care.
