The Los Angeles County Castaic Animal Care Center is rolling out the welcome mat for community members with a blend of education and philanthropy at its upcoming emergency preparedness, Touch a Truck, and Adoption Event. Scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, this daylong extravaganza is set to offer an array of activities aimed at enriching both human and animal lives. According to a bulletin released by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, the festivities will kick off at 11 a.m. and wrap up at 5 p.m., promising an eventful afternoon where emergency readiness meets the joy of pet adoption.
For those looking to expand their families, the adoption opportunity stands at the heart of the event. Prospective pet owners will not just find a new companion but will be armed with knowledge to keep them safe; the Center is preparing demonstrations on how to assemble pet emergency kits and plan evacuations. Despite the fun and games, the underlying message is a serious one - the importance of emergency preparedness. The entire affair is designed around this theme, even bringing the Los Angeles County Fire Department into contribute with live demonstrations of large animal rescue techniques.
In a show of community solidarity, recognition will be given to Anne Kent of Adler Stein Kennels, courtesy of Supervisor Kathryn Barger. Kent is slated to receive a scroll in appreciation for her dedicated efforts in training formerly sheltered dogs for careers in search and rescue, as well as law enforcement. This moment is paired with a demonstration by Kent at 12:00 p.m., showcasing her method for selecting these courageous canines. Meanwhile, the event will also see DACC's display of their emergency response vehicles, underscoring their readiness to respond to any crisis – a capability largely enabled by the fundraising efforts of the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation.
Director Marcia Mayeda emphasized the dual nature of the day, saying, "We are excited to bring the community together for this event. Not only will families have the chance to adopt a new pet, but they will also gain important knowledge about keeping their animals safe during emergencies. It’s a wonderful way to engage with our community and promote responsible pet ownership." The sentiment reflects the Department's aim to support socially conscious sheltering while ensuring the best outcomes for both animals and the community.
Located at 31044 Charlie Canyon Road in Castaic, CA, the venue will fill with more than just education and pet adoption. Guests can look forward to local food trucks and an assortment of other activities tailored for attendees of all ages. With the DACC's commitment to animal welfare and community support at its center, this event is not just an opportunity for engagement but a reinforcement of the bonds between pets and their human companions.
