In an ongoing effort to address the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass announced a notable progression with the Inside Safe program, as it successfully moved more Angelenos from a South LA encampment into safer conditions and care. According to information released by the Mayor's office, the targeted encampment sat wedged between critical community infrastructure—a predicament for residents—and its clearing brings both relief and stability to the area. "Inside Safe is addressing encampments and restoring neighborhoods to the community across the city," Mayor Bass said. "We will not stop until every Angeleno is safely inside and communities are restored."

This initiative lies close to the heart of Council District 9, which Councilmember Curren Price described as an area integral to community life in South Los Angeles. "By clearing and securing this area, we've been able to put our unhoused neighbors on a path toward housing and greater stability, while also making it possible for our residents to fully enjoy their neighborhoods again," Price said, as stated by the Mayor's office. Brotherhood Crusade, one of the communities at stake, expressed gratitude for the city's efforts and strong support for the program. Their President and CEO, Charisse Bremond Weaver, emphasized the importance of the initiative for the completion of a community garden and overall area safety.

Since Mayor Bass took office, Los Angeles has recorded two consecutive years of declining homelessness—the first such trend since the Point in Time Count began in 2005. The latest count shows a 17.5% drop in street homelessness and a 13.5% decrease in makeshift shelters, while permanent housing placements have reached record levels. A RAND Corporation report linked these gains to the Inside Safe program, which has reduced street homelessness in Hollywood by nearly half over the past year. Despite this progress, the program continues working to reach and support those still in need, aiming to sustain and expand the city’s momentum.
