Los Angeles residents are bracing for extreme heat as the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect until 6 PM PDT Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service, Labor Day will be mostly sunny with a high near 94 degrees, while conditions are expected to remain arduous through the week.
As per the NWS Heat Advisory, temperatures will range between 96 to 107 degrees in some areas, with hot daytime conditions and warm overnight conditions. The advisory spans a significant portion of southwest California, with the warning indicating a pronounced risk for heat-related illnesses, particularly among sensitive groups. The NWS advices residents to limit to the early morning hours any strenuous outdoor activities and stresses the importance of staying in air-conditioned spaces during peak heat intervals.
There is also a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 AM on Tuesday, as reported in the detailed forecast. With a 30 percent chance of precipitation, any new rainfall amounts are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, except potentially higher in thunderstorms. As the week progresses, the weather is predicted to clear up, providing residents with some reprieve as temperatures start to slightly decrease.
Local authorities encourage the community to check regularly on relatives and neighbors who might be at higher risk of heat illness. With the advisory potentially needing to "be extended through Wednesday," preparations for a prolonged period of heat are in order. The forecast for Wednesday estimates a sunny day with highs near 91, hinting at a slowly descending temperature trend moving into the end of the week.
