Gov. Jared Polis has named Major General Robert B. Davis as the next Adjutant General of Colorado and Executive Director of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, a role he will step into following the retirement of Major General Laura Clellan, as reported by the Colorado Governor's Office. Davis, with extensive experience both in the military, most recently as Deputy Director of the U.S. Army National Guard, and in the private sector, is set to take on the state's military leadership after Clellan's service to Colorado comes to a celebratory close with a retirement ceremony slated for October 18, 2025.
According to Colorado Governor's Office, Polis expressed his confidence in Davis' capacity to lead, noting his dual expertise in state and national security contexts and his commitment to advancing programs that benefit active duty military personnel and veterans living in Colorado, like the tuition waiver for National Guard members, support for military-connected students and mental health services for military families, Polis emphasized the departure of Major General Clellan comes after an impactful tenure that included inaugurating state partnerships such as the one with Switzerland under the National Guard State Partnership Program. Clellan bids farewell to her post with a respectable history of her own, spanning over three decades of military service with multiple deployments and key leadership roles within the Colorado Army National Guard.
Major General Davis' military accolades are paired with a career in commerce, where he previously led global manufacturing for PopSockets and managed operations for Tendril, Inc. Davis was the driving force behind bringing numerous products to market at PopSockets and ensuring customer success at Tendril, his civilian expertise complementing his military service to form a robust foundation for his new role. As Clellan steps down, she celebrates the achievements of her colleagues and the unyielding support of the community. "I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments of the incredible men and women of the Colorado National Guard and the department," Clellan praised her successor's capabilities, as per the Colorado Governor's Office, affirming her belief in Davis as the right choice to continue the legacy of excellence.
