An unexpected burst of violence stunned patrons at an Upper East Side Apple Store last month, as a 94-year-old man was brutally assaulted whilst browsing the tech haven. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced the indictment of 31-year-old Lewis Reynolds on charges of assault. As per the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Reynolds is facing one count each of Assault in the Second Degree and Assault in the Third Degree.
According to the indictment, on August 5, around 5:52 p.m., the older adult was allegedly punched in the face by Reynolds without provocation. Having fled the scene, and caused the senior to suffer bruises and lower back pain, Reynolds was arrested subsequently on August 8. “No older adult should face a terrifying act of violence like this in New York City,” stated D.A. Bragg. Assistant D.A. Audrey Cunningham is leading the prosecution, under the guidance of several senior legal figures, including Assistant D.A. Jeanine Launay of the Elder Abuse Unit, as per the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
The attack left the elderly victim with noticeable facial bruising and pain that speaks to an unspoken truth of vulnerability that the aged among us often bear in silence. Reynolds' flight from the scene after the assault was a short-lived escape as law enforcement, particularly NYPD Detective Yanvier Morel of the 19th Precinct Detective Squad, were thanked by D.A. Bragg for their assistance in the arrest.
