An incident at a Midtown café culminates in charges for a 33-year-old man. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has announced the indictment of Wagner Louis, who stands accused of attacking and slashing a café worker last month. According to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Louis is charged with attempted murder and assault following the altercation.
The conflict reportedly began when Louis became agitated over the bathroom being occupied at the café. His behavior escalated toward a 50-year-old employee after he attempted to enter the kitchen to urinate and was refused. After later using the bathroom, Louis was escorted out by the same employee, leading to a physical altercation. During the incident, Louis produced a sharp object and inflicted a severe neck wound on the worker.
In the aftermath of the attack, the worker was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he underwent a serious medical procedure, receiving stitches for the large gash on his neck. The assault, which took place in broad daylight on August 20, drew swift response from authorities, leading to an arrest merely blocks away and within minutes of the incident.
Law enforcement response to the scene was rapid, with recognition from D.A. Bragg extending to NYPD's Officers Robert Ronacher and Ryan Vogt of the Midtown South Precinct, and Detective Nicholas Mitchell of the Detective Squad. "This broad daylight attack is horrifying, and I hope the victim continues to heal from this assault," Bragg expressed, according to a statement obtained by the Manhattan DA's office. In the courtroom, Assistant D.A. Meral Kerim with the oversight of higher-ranking officials is slated to manage the prosecution's efforts.
