Isaac Sissel, 26, with a history of deliberately drifting from town to town while engaging in criminal activity, has been sentenced to thirty months in prison for making threats against conservative Christians. A U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan release detailed that Sissel, using handles such as "ShootUpTrumpRally" and "PlanningToKillTrump," sent an anonymous tip to the FBI. In the communication, he threatened to "carry out an attack against conservative christan filth," mentioning an AR-15, in the event of a Trump election win.
In the course of his judgment, Sissel pled guilty to a single charge of transmitting threats in interstate commerce, as stated by United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. In a move to adamantly showcase the government's stern approach, Sissel was additionally charged with a Hate Crimes Motivation enhancement, directly linking his threats to the victim's religion. "We live in evil times," Gorgon declared, per the U.S. Attorney's Office, emphasizing that "even in America, Christians are routinely targeted for death by violent extremists like this man. The First Amendment is a safeguard of religious liberty and free speech—and so it does not protect true threats that undermine religious liberty."
This conviction arrived after Sissel dispatched a threat just two days before a Trump rally in Michigan and only a few days before the 2024 Presidential election. The specter of violence looms ever closer, since it was just four months after an attempted assassination of President Trump with an AR-style weapon at a campaign rally. Although Sissel is a convicted felon and prohibited from owning firearms, investigations found no evidence of an actual AR-15 in his possession.
