Yesterday, a confrontation on the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 94 in Detroit led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man after Michigan State Police deployed a taser. The incident, occurring around 5:10 p.m. near French Road, commenced when Detroit police were alerted to a woman being assaulted on the freeway. As reported by CBS News Detroit, responding troopers discovered a man and woman on the right shoulder, which resulted in the suspect fleeing up a grass embankment after noticing the authorities.
Despite being ordered to halt, the man neglected officers' commands, leading a trooper to employ a taser that subsequently brought the man to the ground, as detailed in ClickOnDetroit. He will be detained at the Detroit Detention Center pending a review from the prosecutor's office. After seeing the trooper, the suspect was running before the taser stopped him, indicating a clear effort to evade law enforcement.
The victim, suffering a minor leg laceration, declined medical treatment at the scene. Michigan State Police have emphasized the availability of support for those affected by domestic abuse. "If you or you know someone who is a victim of domestic abuse, there is help available. You can reach out to law enforcement or the domestic violence hotline at 866.VOICEDV," First Lieutenant Mike Shaw stated, as shared by The Detroit News. Shaw highlighted the incident as the latest in a series of domestic violence cases on Metro Detroit freeways.
