A Manhattan woman has transformed her apartment into a near-replica of the Titanic, inspired by her passion for the 1997 film. Sarah Boll, 38, described as a longtime admirer of the ship’s story, has watched the movie more than 500 times. According to People, she has recreated elements of the Titanic’s interior throughout her living space.
Boll carried out the transformation of her rental apartment without major structural changes, describing the project as “renter-friendly.” To avoid issues with her landlord and the cement ceiling, she used taped decorations. The space now features extensive blue fabric and Titanic-themed elements, including portholes and gold decals inspired by the ship’s Verandah Café, as Gothamist reported.
The immersive environment features a variety of rooms, including a "Water Room" meant to represent the shipwreck and an iceberg room adorned with white fabric. Her attention to authentic recreation has extended to purchasing a cherub figure for $900 and gilded panels for her main bedroom, according to Gothamist. The apartment also showcases the names of the Titanic disaster victims, displayed in one of her bathrooms, turning it into a memorial.
Boll's project, which she has chronicled on TikTok and Instagram, has captured the imagination of thousands. Taking the DIY route, Boll mentions that the only structural change she made was the installation of a few holes to mount the portholes. "Everything's taped," she explained, noting the challenges posed by humid conditions that occasionally cause decorations to fall, as shared with Gothamist. As for the cost of this nautical endeavor, Boll admits she's spent thousands but prefers not to track it too closely. "If I was the type of person to pay attention to how much money I'm spending, I would’ve never started doing this in the first place," she said.
