Marquette University has confirmed the deaths of two men’s lacrosse players, Noah Snyder and Scott Michaud, following a car crash on Friday night last week near the campus in Milwaukee. Students and faculty gathered for a campus mass on Saturday in their memory, WISN reports.

According to Milwaukee police, the crash occurred at around 5 p.m. at the intersection of 27th and St. Paul Avenue. A 41-year-old driver reportedly collided with the car carrying Snyder, Michaud, and four other lacrosse team members. Snyder and Michaud were pronounced dead at the scene. Marquette President Kimo Ah Yun, in a statement obtained by ESPN, asked for prayers for the families and those who knew the students. Both Snyder and Michaud had previously been named to the Big East All-Academic Team.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the driver was arrested 40 minutes after the incident for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. No charges had been filed as of September 7 and remain pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. The suspect’s identity has not been released until charges are formally announced.

WISN noted that a message above the Varsity Theatre read, “Our hearts are with you, men’s lacrosse team.” Marquette announced the cancellation of all home athletic events to give the student body time to grieve.
