In an act of swift emergency response, the Maryland State Police Aviation Command's Helicopter Trooper 3 was dispatched to Maryland Heights Overlook cliff in Washington County, where they successfully executed a hoist rescue of a hiker suffering from a medical emergency. According to details published by Maryland State Police, the incident took place yesterday at around 1:33 p.m.
The patient's critical condition and the difficult terrain presented a scenario where an aerial extraction was deemed necessary to quickly and efficiently transport the individual to medical care. As per the official report, the well-coordinated operation involved ground support from Washington County Fire and Rescue Services as well as the Frederick County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, who worked in tandem with the aircrew to stabilize and to securely lift the patient to the hovering Leonardo Agusta Westland AW-139 helicopter.
Following the successful rescue, the patient was airlifted to Meritus Medical Center, located in Hagerstown, for the necessary treatment of their injuries. The precision with which the Trooper 3 pilots maneuvered the aircraft, hovering it approximately 125 feet above the cliff face for the rescue, reflects the exceptional skill within the Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
