Motorists in Oakland County should brace for detours as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) gears up for culvert repairs on Saginaw Road near Interstate 75. The construction is scheduled from 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, necessitating the closure of southbound Saginaw Road/Dixie Highway from the Michigan Department of Transportation carpool lot to McClelland Road, with traffic being redirected via westbound Baldwin Road, southbound Holly Road, and eastbound Grange Hall Road to return to I-75 and Dixie Highway; an alternate route is also available via westbound Baldwin Road and northbound Holly Road, Michigan Department of Transportation announced.

The ongoing project has already led to lane reductions on northbound and southbound I-75 between Baldwin Road and Clarkston Road, and closures of multiple I-75 exit and entrance ramps – including Southbound I-75 Exit 106 to Dixie Highway/Saginaw Road and the southbound I-75 Exit 98 to East Holly Road – which will continue until late fall. Predictions suggest that the overall work for the year will be complete in early November, after which the crews will remove the temporary crossovers and perform any remaining tasks in 2026, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

This project is part of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program, aimed at fixing the state’s most important highways and bridges. The goal is to improve and extend the life of Michigan’s infrastructure. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the plan is also expected to support about 1,936 jobs.
