Residents and commuters in Mesquite, brace yourselves for the significant development updates you've been waiting for across the city's infrastructure landscape. Kicking off with the F. P. Lucas Boulevard project, the latest from the City of Mesquite indicates that a vast majority of the groundwork has reached the home stretch. The upgrade from a two-lane asphalt to a four-lane divided concrete road includes fresh traffic utilities and a multi-use trail to complement the new bridge sections, according to the city's announcement.
Notably, the construction from McKenzie Road to Cartwright Road northbound is entirely paved in concrete and was opened to traffic last month. On the southbound side, progress hits the 90% mark with completion expected this fall, aligning with forecasts for full project completion. As per the update, the water and sewer installations are nearly done, boasting a 98% completion, while pedestrians can look forward to 80% of the multi-use trail being ready for their steps.
Moving on, South Parkway's facelift from U.S. 80 to Peachtree Road comes under the well-publicized "Real. Texas. Roads." initiative. As promised, the area now sports new water and sewer utilities beneath a fresh concrete that has been laid down. For those living in the zone, the alleys now offer access to homes as the main roads get their new look. The official statement reveals that the project is substantially complete at 98%, with final inspections in the pipeline this month.
Several other neighborhoods are witnessing transformation, with Lorraine Lane, Candise Court, and Ivy Drive among the lucky recipients of new water and sewer utility reconstruction. The construction activity began in earnest in February. Now, in a seamless transition, paving is reaching its zenith, with Lorraine Lane and Candise Court completely done, and Sybil Drive only inches away from completion. Yet, notable is the painstaking care with which the city plots its path, balancing progress with disruption, promising a Spring 2026 finish line.
For Sierra Drive, Wilkinson Drive, Paza Drive, and Miranda Drive, September rings in the starting bells of utility construction, setting the stage for reassessed roads come Spring 2026. Meanwhile, the bidding process for the rehabilitation of South Walker Street, Tripp Road, and Mariposa Drive reached its conclusion in July, earmarking late September for shovels to hit dirt with a scheduled completion in the spring of the following year.
Lastly, a slew of alleyways are in the midst of a concrete comeback, as projects on Leta Way, Greenland Drive, and the connecting alleys have forged ahead, with some like Leta Way nearing 60% completion. Expected to be out by Spring 2026, these alleys will soon afford residents a smoother, more reliable transit within their local environs. In the meantime, the city isn't neglecting its previously completed streets either, with maintenance initiatives in the pipeline for asphalt and concrete roads, including Calle Hanby and Barnes Bridge Road, due this September.
