As civic participation gears up for the coming election cycle, Milwaukee County is setting up to mark National Voter Registration Day. This Tuesday, September 16, County Clerk George Christenson and Elections Director Michelle Hawley are orchestrating a bid to boost local voter registration efforts, aligning with national movements to get more citizens ready to hit the polls.
Conveniently located at the Milwaukee County Courthouse Rotunda, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a resource table will be available to assist residents who lack technical resources such as smartphones or internet access. "We acknowledge that not everyone has access to technology like smartphones, computers, or the internet," a statement from the Milwaukee County Election Commission expressed. They're bringing in election officials to provide both the tools and the know-how, aiming to smooth out any wrinkles in the voter registration process. Residents interested in registering are reminded to carry an acceptable proof of residence document, such as a Wisconsin Driver License or utility bill.
This year marks the 14th celebration of National Voter Registration Day, an initiative that's seen over 6 million Americans take to the voting booths since its inception. The day has grown to become the largest nonpartisan day of civic engagement and action across the country, as noted by the Milwaukee County Election Commission.
