In Milwaukee, the District Attorney's Office has charged 21-year-old Kenneth O. Cubero in connection with a police-involved shooting during a recent traffic stop. The Milwaukee Police Department reported that the incident unfolded late at night on Wednesday, September 17, when Cubero allegedly fled on foot after being stopped by officers on the 1200 block of W. Greenfield Avenue.
According to the police, after giving commands to stop that were ignored, the chase ended up retrieving his dropped firearm, leading to an officer discharging their weapon and striking Cubero. However, he was the only one injured during the altercation. Transported to a hospital, Cubero received treatment for non-fatal injuries and is now facing a single count of obstructing an officer—a charge that could result in up to 9 months behind bars and a fine of $10,000.
The gravity of such confrontations between police and citizens underscores the tension that frequently accompanies these encounters, particularly when a firearm is involved. While in this case, fortunately, no life was lost, these moments often serve as a stark reminder of the potential for escalation.
