Milwaukee is gearing up to break ground on a new maritime addition, the South Shore Cruise Dock, slated to elevate the city's cruise industry offerings. According to a recent press release from Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic, this event, marking the commencement of construction, will take place tomorrow at 2320 S. Lincoln Memorial Dr, as per the City of Milwaukee.

The city has been charting its course toward this goal for some time now. "This new cruise dock has been in the works for many years, as the Common Council adopted an initial $2 million in funding for this project as part of the 2023 city budget, and supported another $5 million as part of the 2025 city budget," Dimitrijevic said with an eye firmly on bolstering Milwaukee's tourism appeal, as stated by the City of Milwaukee. The new facility is designed to not only make a significant first impression but to also stimulate Milwaukee's economic seascape as large Seawaymax vessels will finally have another local dock to weigh their anchors.

Providing further insights into the developmental journey, Alderwoman Dimitrijevic highlighted the collaborations that have driven the project forward. "I want to thank Port staff for their continued progress on this effort, as well as my colleagues on the Council who have continued to support funding this important project for our city," she conveyed in the statement obtained by the City of Milwaukee's news site. As visitors disembark, she envisaged, so too would a wave of economic benefits arrive at the shores of the local community.

The South Shore Cruise Dock is poised to become Milwaukee's third cruise dock, complementing the city's existing maritime infrastructure. Having set sail from a meeting of minds and municipal resources, the dock represents a forward-looking investment in a future where Milwaukee is positioned as a significant Northern cruise destination. Construction is expected to unfold across the following summer, with a vision for operational readiness by the mid-2026 cruising season, the press release confirmed, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.
