
The City of Monroe recognized members of its police force and city staff for notable service during a recent city council meeting. New hires were introduced, milestones acknowledged, and two police officers were commended for actions credited with saving lives.
According to a City of Monroe announcement, Officer Tristan Shea was named Officer of the Month for September for his response during a violent incident earlier this year. Shea intervened after Officer Madison Sweatt was shot and stayed with him until backup arrived.
Officer Niklas Tarczynski received the Life Saving Award for administering CPR late last month to revive an elderly man who had collapsed. A nurse at the scene expressed appreciation for the quick response.
Monroe’s Energy Services Department received the Carolina Public Gas Association’s T.R.U.S.T. Award and three ElectriCities Public Power Awards of Excellence recognizing training, community ties, system reliability, and workforce investment. The Finance Department’s Payment Center division achieved a 99.57% tax collection rate for the 2025 fiscal year, setting a new city record.
