Montgomery County has established its first Human Relations Commission. The commission will address discrimination in areas such as housing, employment, and public spaces. The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations welcomed the move, according to the City of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia’s Human Relations Commission, the oldest municipal human relations commission in the country, welcomed Montgomery County’s creation of its own commission. “This milestone expands our collective ability to advance equity and protect civil rights across the Greater Philadelphia region,” said Kareem E. Thomas, PCHR Chairman. The new commission will provide residents with additional resources for civil rights protection, as reported by the City of Philadelphia.

Renee Chenault-Fattah, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, said, "Congratulations, Montgomery County, for taking this important step in supporting civil and human rights and racial justice. This is foundational to our democracy. People want to know that local government is there for them, safeguarding their rights to fairness and opportunity." Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations works to address discrimination and promote community relations through programs such as its Dispute Resolution Program, which offers mediation and conflict resolution services, as stated by the City of Philadelphia.
