"We have a responsibility to stay laser-focused on lowering costs for families, including health care costs," Stein stated, highlighting the urgency for legislative action.
The impending expiration of these tax credits paints a grim scenario where nearly 80% of enrollees nationally, who were able to find plans at $10 or less per month thanks to the premium tax credits, might soon need to brace for a dire financial toll. If Congress does not manage to rapidly extend them by September 30, the critical lifeline these credits provide to many will irrevocably slip away, leaving affordable health insurance out of reach. The NC Department of Insurance has projected that such an event "will make it more difficult for people to afford their premiums," particularly impacting rural residents, young people, and low-income citizens the hardest, the Governor's Office mentioned.
