A North Hollywood resident reportedly opened fire on an alleged intruder attempting a break-in through a window, with the incident initially leaving more questions than answers. The encounter took place on the 12800 block of Oxnard Street this past Friday morning, according to KTLA.

The suspect was discovered when the homeowner heard noises from the kitchen and saw someone attempting to enter through a window. Fearing for his safety, the homeowner reportedly armed himself and fired at the intruder, later telling police he believed he had hit the man in the chest. However, the Los Angeles Police Department's initial investigation found no blood at the scene, as detailed by KTLA.

A neighbor recounted to FOX LA that the suspect used a shopping cart to climb through an apartment window. He fled the scene but later showed up at a nearby emergency room, where he was transported to Northridge and treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

At this time, the resident faces no charges. This marks the second case in which a homeowner has opened fire on a suspect in the San Fernando Valley, the previous incident occurring in Encino last July. An LAPD captain acknowledged community concerns about break-ins but noted that reported cases are actually declining, with more being filed with the district attorney’s office. Many neighbors expressed support for the homeowner’s actions, saying he was defending himself, as per FOX LA.
