An interstate shooting in Jacksonville has claimed the life of one person and left three others injured. The incident, which took place last night around 7:45 p.m., occurred along I-10 near the I-95 split, as reported by Action News Jax. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene following a 911 call from a woman stating she had been shot.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found four gunshot victims – three men and one woman – according to First Coast News. It was determined that the individuals were shot at by someone inside an unidentified dark-colored vehicle. The exchange of gunfire came after words were apparently exchanged between the two cars. A child was also present in the victim's vehicle but was fortunately unharmed in the incident.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded alongside JSO, providing treatment to one man on the scene while the others were transported to a local hospital. Regrettably, one of the men succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The circumstances surrounding this violent encounter remain unclear, with Sgt. J. Catir stating to First Coast News, "At this time, we do not know the relationship of the parties involved, nor do we know the circumstances surrounding the shooting."
During the subsequent investigation, the I-10/I-95 split was temporarily shut down, disrupting traffic, but it has since been reopened. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continues to thoroughly investigate the incident. As stated by News4Jax, JSO affirmed, "the relationships of those involved and the exact circumstances of the shooting remain unclear and are still under investigation."
