Over 100 guinea pigs have been rescued from a hoarding case in Las Vegas, the Nevada SPCA has confirmed. Initially, a manageable group of five quickly escalated into a concerning situation as their numbers burgeoned to triple digits. The animals were found roaming aimlessly outdoors, 'vulnerable to predators and the elements,' according to the News 3 LV report.
Staff from the Nevada SPCA leaped into action, managing to safely rescue 40 guinea pigs, which included "newborns, pregnant moms, and even a little fighter missing an eye." The rescue efforts were not easy, with teams having to quickly mobilize to ensure they could identify and evaluate the numerous animals in distress. The remainder of the guinea pigs were assisted by "additional rescue organizations,” ensuring that all the animals received the urgent help they needed, as noted by News 3 LV.
The plight of the guinea pigs generated significant empathy among animal lovers and the community. The KTNV report shared the Nevada SPCA's call for support, urging those interested in adopting to reach out. The SPCA has made it clear that they are actively seeking potential adopters who can provide these animals with safe homes.
