A large depression has formed on Clock Tower Parkway in Pasco County, prompting a road closure and traffic redirection. WFLA reported the depression is about 25 feet wide and 5 feet deep and appeared yesterday around 6 a.m. near the intersection with Majestic Boulevard. Pasco County Emergency Management Director Andrew Fossa stated the depression may increase in size and depth, leading to precautionary measures to protect residents.
The depression is linked to the seasonal transition from wet to dry weather, which caused the limestone foundation beneath the surface to collapse. The road has been barricaded, and eastbound lanes remain closed. A temporary repair is planned for today, but no timeline has been provided for a permanent solution.
FOX 13 reported that the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has directed drivers to take alternate routes.
Spectrum Bay News 9 highlighted the county’s advisory asking residents to avoid the area due to the road’s compromised condition.
A geo-technical firm has been engaged to perform ground-penetrating radar assessments to better understand the sub-surface conditions and guide future repair efforts.
