Philly residents have a refreshing way to blend fitness with neighborhood camaraderie through We Walk PHL—a free walking group initiative that's transforming local parks into hubs of communal well-being. Launched in 2017, We Walk PHL has garnered support from the Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, aiming to foster better health, a greater appreciation of parks, and encourage friendships.
The format is straightforward yet impactful: community members meet up to walk for about an hour, mostly one to three times weekly. As reported by the City of Philadelphia, each session is led by locals trained to not only guide the walks but also to nurture community spirit. Even more significantly, it's stepping up to slowly create togetherness, and everybody is welcome to join, reinforcing the bond among Philly's diverse residents.
Participants can find out when and where to meet through the We Walk PHL public Facebook page, where the fall season schedule, running from September 1 through October 31, is regularly updated, as per the City of Philadelphia. Step into better health and stronger community ties—lace up your shoes and join a fall walk.
