As autumn grips the Golden State, Pittsburgh weather seems to be on a bit of a roller coaster with the chance of rain and warmer days, according to the latest forecast issued by the National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA, residents to the south and east of Pittsburgh should keep their umbrellas handy, as low pressure is expected to bring increased rain chances into the area today.
The weather pattern is shifting with some areas north of the city experiencing morning fog, and dew points rising throughout the day, leading to temperatures in the 70s – perhaps even hitting the 80s in Northwestern PA/eastern OH. For Pittsburgh's aviary contingent, the forecast holds a PROB30 – weather parlance for a 30% chance – of showers at airports near LBE and MGW, this proximity to the low pressure and associated ascent providing a more favorable moisture context.
Despite the current precipitation, Sunday and Monday are slated to bring dryness and heat. Ensembles then support the upper low cutting off from the flow on Sunday as surface high pressure builds across the Great Lakes, according to the National Weather Service. This translates to a clear and warm end to the weekend, with Sunday's temperatures potentially soaring above the 80-degree threshold.
The long-term forecast beyond Monday, however, is saddled with uncertainty, with potential tropical development off the Carolinas casting a shadow of doubt. Although none of the scenarios present a significant threat to Pittsburgh as of now, models suggest a range of outcomes from increased cloud coverage and southerly rains to a dry and warmer week if high pressure builds in quickly and robustly. The National Weather Service advises, the uncertainty is represented well by NBM MaxT spread Tuesday and Wednesday, being as high as 10 degrees between the 25th/75th percentiles (as warm as the upper 70s or as cool as the upper 60s).
For flyers, today's forecast suggests mainly high and mid-level clouds with POSSIBLE fog interventions late into tonight and early Sunday. While fog and stratus may loom into Sunday morning, a prevailing high pressure should ensure VFR – Visual Flight Rules conditions, suitable for aviation for the rest of the week. Travelers should keep an eye on visibility levels and check for any potential advisories, though none are currently in place for PA, OH, or WV.
