Plymouth is dealing with a rat infestation that has spread through neighborhoods in the northwest part of the city. Residents have reported frequent sightings since May, and exterminators, including Adam Urbiha, say they are now working in the area daily. Sunset Street resident Ron Crowe recorded more than 200 rats on video, saying, "All of them are having rat problems as well as the other side of the street, and going down a street over to Auburn, they're having problems with the rats," he told CBS News. Neighbors are pooling money for exterminators and using Facebook to share information and strategies.
Plymouth City Manager Paul Sincock said the rat problem may be linked to M-14 construction work disrupting the animals’ habitats. He noted the issue involves not only rats but also other wildlife such as raccoons and possums. Some residents, including Ron Crowe, expressed frustration and told WXYZ, "They have to take care of their population, their citizens."
Plymouth residents on the northwest side report ongoing rodent problems despite a city ban on ground feeding and the distribution of prevention flyers. On September 2, the city commission heard concerns from residents, including requests for financial help with trapping and a rodent control plan during construction projects, as mentioned by Hereplymouth. A community forum is scheduled for September 27 to discuss prevention measures and solutions.
