Earlier yesterday, a Racine home suffered significant damage due to a fire that is believed to have started from a dehumidifier. The Racine Fire Department responded to an emergency call around 3:37 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Oregon Street, as reported by FOX6 News. Upon arrival, crews found the basement with moderate fire damage along with heavy smoke and water damage.
According to the firefighters, the probable cause of the blaze appeared to be from an electronic device on the basement floor that seemed to be the remains of a dehumidifier, as detailed by TMJ4. This incident led to one resident being hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Despite the chaos, no injuries were reported among the fire department personnel.
Structural damages from the fire have been estimated at approximately $70,000, with an additional $15,000 in damages to the contents of the home. The first floor also experienced some minor smoke damage.
While the Racine Fire Department is still waiting for results from further testing to confirm the dehumidifier as the definitive cause, the early indications suggest a strong possibility. "The probable cause of the fire was an electronic device on the floor of the basement, which appeared to be the remains of a dehumidifier," WISN reported.
