Employees at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters’ office experienced a scare yesterday afternoon when a bomb threat email triggered a police response and prompted precautionary evacuations.

Santa Rosa police said the message, written in a foreign language, was vague and did not identify a specific target. Investigators later determined that the email had been sent to county election workers, employees across multiple Sonoma County departments, and even to other counties in the region.

In a Facebook statement, police noted: “It was found that several County of Sonoma employees from different departments received the same email.” Some county offices evacuated staff as a safety measure while police conducted interviews and searched the premises. After a thorough assessment, authorities concluded the threat was not credible and confirmed that no explosives were found.

“Based on the circumstances and investigation, the threat did not appear to be credible,” Santa Rosa police said. By late afternoon, employees were allowed to return to work. Officials emphasized that while the incident ended without harm, threats of this nature are treated with utmost seriousness to protect public safety.
